The Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Jacob Oboth-Oboth, has backed Amus College School’s campaign at the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship CECAFA Qualifiers with UGX10 million in financial support.
The contribution was announced by Kumi Municipality MP Hon. Silas Aogon, who represented the Speaker at the school’s official flag-off ceremony at Parliament on Saturday, August 29.
“On behalf of Parliament, we have organised UGX 10 million in facilitation to support Amus College School’s campaign.”
The 2026 CAF Africa Schools Football Championship CECAFA Qualifiers will be held in Kigali, Rwanda, from September 3–5.
Amus College earned the right to represent Uganda in both the boys’ and girls’ categories after securing double victories at the USSSA National Championships in Gulu in July, becoming the first school to win both national titles in the same year.
With the financial boost from Parliament, Amus College heads to Kigali carrying Uganda’s hopes in both categories and returning to the CECAFA stage after a three-year absence.
The school previously featured in the inaugural qualifiers in 2022.
Speaking through Aogon, Oboth-Oboth described the opportunity as both an honour and a responsibility for the young players.
“Representing Uganda at a continental level is both an honour and a responsibility.”
He congratulated Amus College on its historic double and stressed the significance of reaching the continental stage.
“Qualifying for a continental championship is not an ordinary accomplishment.”
As the school targets continental glory, the Speaker urged the players to combine their talent with the character required to succeed at the highest level.
“It will take discipline, courage and determination to win the trophy.”
He also challenged the players to approach their opponents with confidence and respect.
“Respect every opponent, but fear none.”
Oboth-Oboth encouraged the team to trust its preparation, teammates and abilities once the tournament begins.
“Play your football, trust your training, trust your teammates and believe in yourselves.”
He placed particular emphasis on teamwork, warning the players against prioritising individual recognition over the interests of the team.
“Football is a team sport; there is no trophy won by one player alone.”
On the importance of selflessness, he added:
“Pass the ball when your teammate is better placed. Do not play for personal glory; play for Uganda.”
The Speaker further called for unity throughout the tournament.
“Defend together, attack together, celebrate together and, when necessary, fight together for the badge.”
Beyond their performances on the pitch, Oboth-Oboth reminded the players that their conduct would also shape how Uganda is perceived.
“Discipline is the cornerstone of success, both in football and in life.”
He added:
“Your conduct away from the pitch will be just as important as your performance on it.”
The Speaker also linked Amus College’s continental assignment to Uganda’s wider football ambitions, particularly the country’s role in co-hosting AFCON 2027 alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
“You are part of the generation that will inherit Uganda’s footballing future.”
He urged the youngsters to view the tournament as an opportunity to position themselves for future national-team careers.
“Think about the Uganda Cranes of tomorrow and the players who will represent our country at major international competitions.”
Oboth-Oboth further challenged them to use the continental platform to positively showcase Uganda’s emerging football talent.
“Let CAF and the rest of Africa see that Uganda has young footballers of quality, discipline and character.”
As they prepare for the Kigali challenge, he urged the players to give everything for the national colours.
“Run for the shirt, fight for every ball and remain focused until the final whistle.”
And when the pressure rises, he reminded them of the responsibility attached to representing the country.
“When the match becomes difficult, remember the flag on your jersey.”
The Speaker said he expects the players to return from Rwanda with more than tournament memories.
“Return home with the experience, confidence and determination to become the next generation of Ugandan football stars.”
The challenge in Kigali will be significant, but Amus College will draw confidence from the backing of its school and country as it seeks to build on Uganda’s strong record in the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship.
Uganda’s boys have reached the continental finals in each of the first four editions, with St Mary’s Kitende finishing runners-up at the 2026 continental finals in Harare, Zimbabwe.
