Kyaddondo Secondary School head coach Hakim Ssenkumba has sounded a note of caution ahead of his side’s pivotal Group E encounter against Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA), describing the fixture as a defining test of character at the ongoing Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National Boys’ Football Championship in Lira City.
Fresh from a hard-earned 2-1 victory over Kigumba Intensive Secondary School, the Wakiso District finalists enter Tuesday’s clash with momentum, yet fully aware of the tactical and physical demands that await them. Goals from Rafael Masudu and Joseph Kakooza secured maximum points in their opener, but Ssenkumba acknowledged that his side must significantly elevate their performance levels.
“The first match in any tournament is always difficult, and we are grateful for the three points,” Ssenkumba noted.
“However, we struggled to create clear chances and were not clinical enough with the few opportunities we had. That is an area we must urgently address.”
Attention now shifts to JIPRA, a side widely regarded for its resilience and tournament pedigree.
The Jinja-based outfit demonstrated both promise and vulnerability in their opening fixture, surrendering a late lead to settle for a 1-1 draw against Kalisizo Seed Secondary School.
Joram Mukisa had given JIPRA the advantage before Abdu Mulungi struck late to restore parity.
Ssenkumba expects nothing short of an intense contest.
“JIPRA is a tournament team — disciplined, experienced, and difficult to break down. We must be at our absolute best, with no margin for error. I anticipate a very competitive and physical game,” he emphasized.
As standings currently reflect, Kyadondo tops Group E with three points, while JIPRA and Kalisizo are level on one point apiece.
Kigumba remains rooted at the bottom without a point, adding further significance to Tuesday’s showdown as the race for knockout qualification gathers pace.
With the group stage set to conclude on 19th May, stakes are steadily rising. The tournament’s semi-finalists will earn the prestigious opportunity to represent Uganda at the 2026 Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games scheduled for August in Morogoro, Tanzania.
For Kyaddondo, the mission is clear: build consistency, sharpen efficiency, and navigate a potentially decisive hurdle against a formidable JIPRA side.
