A new era of football analysis is set to unfold at the FIFA World Cup 2026™, with FIFA unveiling a star-studded Technical Study Group (TSG) tasked with dissecting all 104 matches while bringing fans closer to the game than ever before.
For the first time in tournament history, supporters across the globe will gain access to real-time tactical insights, powered by FIFA’s Enhanced Football Intelligence service.
The initiative blends elite technical expertise with advanced data analytics, delivering live and post-match visuals through augmented reality and traditional broadcast formats.
At the helm of this ambitious project is Arsène Wenger, FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development, with Pascal Zuberbühler leading the panel as Senior Football Expert.
They are supported by Football Performance Insights lead Tom Gardner and a multidisciplinary team of analysts, engineers, and data scientists operating from hubs in Miami, Dallas, and Manchester.
The TSG itself is a blend of global football pedigree and coaching intelligence. It features respected names such as Jürgen Klinsmann, Gilberto Silva, Pablo Zabaleta and Jon Dahl Tomasson, alongside Otto Addo, Tobin Heath, Jayne Ludlow, Michael O’Neill, Paulo Wanchope and Aron Winter.
Operating from dedicated performance suites and live vantage points within stadiums, the group will have access to six camera angles and thousands of live data points per match.
Beyond tactical breakdowns, the TSG will also be responsible for selecting the tournament’s individual award winners.
Wenger emphasised the broader mission of the group, noting that its work extends beyond match analysis to shaping the future of football. By identifying emerging trends and highlighting evolving player demands, the TSG aims to influence coaching, player development and the global understanding of the game.
Crucially, FIFA’s digital ecosystem will serve as the public-facing arm of this initiative. Through the FIFA Training Centre and its social platforms, fans will receive direct, real-time observations from the TSG — a significant step in democratising elite-level football intelligence.
Backed by unprecedented volumes of high-quality data, the Technical Study Group is poised to redefine how the world watches and understands football, transforming the 2026 tournament into not just a spectacle, but a masterclass in the modern game.
