KCCA FC have booked their place in the FUFA Super 8 final after edging Kitara FC 1-0 in a tense semi-final encounter, with Saidi Mayanja delivering the decisive blow inside the opening minute.
Mayanja capitalised on a defensive lapse by Kitara defender Benjamin Nyakojo, finding the breakthrough almost immediately after kick-off to give the Kasasiro Boys an early advantage they ultimately protected until the final whistle.
The victory completes a strong run for KCCA FC, who had earlier eliminated BUL FC 4-2 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.
BUL took the lead in the return leg through Umar Lutalo, but KCCA mounted a spirited comeback as new signings Charles Lwanga “Neymar” and Yunusu Sabira found the net to turn the tie in their favour.
Kitara, meanwhile, reached the semi-finals after eliminating Police FC 4-1 on aggregate.
The Uganda Cup champions produced a commanding 4-0 victory in the first leg, with Living Kabon, Patrick Kaddu, Emmanuel Wasswa and Jimmy Kalema all getting on the scoresheet.
Police responded with a 1-0 victory in the return leg, courtesy of Bedia Ikamba, but the result was insufficient to overturn Kitara’s commanding first-leg advantage.
NEC await the final semi-finalists
NEC FC will now await the winner of the remaining quarter-final between SC Villa and Maroons FC.
NEC FC have already secured their place in the second semi-final after overcoming UPPC 3-2 on aggregate.
NEC won the return leg 2-1, with Richard Basangwa scoring both goals to send his side through.
The remaining quarter-final between SC Villa and Maroons has, however, attracted particular significance beyond the football itself.
The second leg was postponed to allow SC Villa to observe the mourning and burial period of their captain David Awori, who was murdered last week.
The decisive encounter is now scheduled for Tuesday, 11 August, at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, with the winner earning a semi-final date with NEC FC.
