Leaders Vipers SC tightened their grip on the Uganda Premier League summit with a composed 2–0 victory over Buhimba United at Royals Park in Butema on Tuesday.

The Venoms, eager to halt a brief dip following consecutive draws, delivered a professional performance to collect all three points and move to 55 on the table, while their hosts remain deep in relegation trouble with just 15 points from 24 matches.

Vipers struck early and never relinquished control. In the 12th minute, a dangerous header from Hillary Mukundane took a decisive deflection off Derrick Ochen, looping past the goalkeeper for an unfortunate own goal that handed the visitors the lead.

The first half saw Vipers repeatedly threaten through Yunus Sentamu, whose pace and movement unsettled the Buhimba backline.

One of his incisive runs set up Karim AbdulKarim Watambala, though the midfielder’s effort was blocked. Moments later, Sentamu again broke through, only to be denied by a sharp save from the home goalkeeper.

The decisive second goal arrived shortly after the interval. Twelve minutes into the second half, Watambala calmly converted from the penalty spot, sealing a deserved win and underlining Vipers’ attacking efficiency.

With this result, Vipers not only returned to winning ways but also reinforced their credentials as title favourites, combining early intent with disciplined game management to see out the contest comfortably.
