Uganda Youth Football Association (UYFA) chairman Robert Kiwanuka decries poor football infrastructure, irregularities in data bases and high taxes on the equipment as the major challenges face in talent grooming, nurturing and development.
Kiwanuka was addressing the media during the ongoing UYFA U15 National league championship at Kosovo Grounds in Luweero, Kasana.
“We are here today for the U15 National championship. It attracted 17 teams from the 23 sub-regions.
We appeal to the local government to help academies by developing modern facilities, subsidization of equipment to enable everyone to play.
Our footballers endure the worst facilities in the East African region right from an early and buy the time they get up to a professional age, injuries couldn’t enable them to play.
Under the FUFA vision for Mass football, subsidization of equipment will realize the dream.
We thank FUFA for funding this championship in all ways.
We are challenged with data systems and information flows and control. Currently NIRA has been trying to bridge the gap but with failures in some areas.
We are looking up to the new law to solve a lot of issues the we have been facing lately”, Robert Kiwanuka the chairman Uganda Youth Football Association (UYFA).
The UYFA U15 National league championship stated on 30th August and will climax on Sunday 3rd September 2023.
Over 288 players for both girls and boys. 17 boys and five girls teams took part in this year’s edition.
