The Inter-Islamic Secondary Schools Association of Uganda (ISSAU) Games successfully concluded its 2026 edition with a grand Finals and Awards Ceremony held on 3rd July 2026 at Buziga Islamic Theological Institute, bringing to a close of vibrant showcase of sporting excellence, intellectual rigor, and cultural expression.
The games climaxed with a nail-biting, mouth-watering football final thriller between Greenlight Islamic Secondary School–Nansana and hosts Buziga Islamic Theological Institute.
Greenlight successfully defended their title after grinding out a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the hosts.
Mark Dandali’s late second-half strike proved decisive, sealing Greenlight’s triumph and etching their name further into ISSAU folklore.
The victory marked their third title and a historic milestone, as they became the first school ever to secure back-to-back championships.
This year’s edition featured 11 disciplines, underscoring the association’s continued expansion.
Notably, basketball made its debut, adding a new dimension to the competition.
Other outdoor events included volleyball, football, and netball, while a rich array of indoor activities complemented the sporting programme.
The indoor segment featured Public Speaking (English and Arabic), poetry, quiz, Qur’an Recitation, and Hadith, attracting participation from seven schools.
Bilal Islamic Institute Kakiri, Bilal Islamic Secondary School Bwaise, Toptimes High School Kyengera, Rabiha High School Bombo, Kampala Islamic Secondary School Bweyogerere, Madinah Islamic Secondary School Nsangi, and Greenlight Islamic Secondary School Nansana were the participants.
Meanwhile, the outdoor competitions brought together ten teams: Daar Ssalaam Secondary School Matugga, Kampala Islamic Secondary School Bweyogerere, Kasawo Islamic Secondary School Mukono, Qamar High School Bunamwaya, Bilal Islamic Secondary School Bwaise, Hamdan Islamic Secondary School Nakifuma, Ibn Kathir Islamic Secondary School Buwambo, Buziga Islamic Theological Institute, Madinah Islamic Secondary School Nsangi, and Greenlight Islamic Secondary School Nansana.
In netball, Hamdan Islamic Secondary School Nakifuma emerged champions after a thrilling 12-11 victory over Greenlight in a tightly contested final.
Hosts Buziga Islamic Theological Institute claimed gold in volleyball, while Qamar High School Bunamwaya etched their name in history as the inaugural basketball champions.
The indoor competitions produced equally impressive performances.
Bilal Islamic Secondary School Bwaise dominated Qur’an Recitation (Boys) and Public Speaking (Arabic), while Bilal Islamic Institute Kakiri claimed top honours in Qur’an Recitation (Girls).
Madinah Islamic Secondary School Nsangi excelled in Quiz, Public Speaking (English), and Poetry, while Greenlight Islamic Secondary School Nansana secured victory in Hadith.
The ceremony was graced by celebrated cleric Imaam Kasozi, who lauded the participants for their discipline and sportsmanship.
“I have witnessed good discipline and sportmanship amongst participating athletes and commend you for it.
To achieve from this association, their is need for all associate members to work towards its aims and objectives and I call upon all of you to move towards that.
Unity must be a catalyst in all whatever you do to achieve your goals.” Imaam Kasozi.
