URA and Vipers SC will be desperate to arrest their faltering starts to the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season when they meet under the floodlights at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Saturday night.
Both clubs head into the encounter under pressure after making significant changes to their technical benches, with the defending champions struggling to keep pace with the early title contenders and the Tax Collectors fighting to escape the relegation zone.
URA occupy the bottom end of the standings with seven points from seven matches, while Vipers have collected eight points fewer than the league leaders after recording two defeats and two draws in their opening seven outings.
The disappointing returns prompted both clubs to act, with Sam Ssimbwa returning to the URA dugout following Jimmy Kintu’s departure, while Vipers parted ways with French tactician Denis Lavagne and appointed John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda.
Ssimbwa has already enjoyed a promising start, guiding URA to a crucial 1-0 victory over UPDF earlier in the week.
Ayala, however, suffered an immediate setback as Vipers fell 1-0 to Mbarara City in Kamwenge.
Saturday’s meeting therefore offers the new Vipers coach an opportunity to restore confidence, while Ssimbwa will be eager to build momentum and steer URA away from danger.
Vipers could turn to Gusto Mulongo to lead their attack, although Ceasar Manzoki’s fitness remains a potential selection factor.
Nicholas Mwere is also pushing for a starting place after recovering from injury, while Farouk Miya, Karim Watambala, Joel Sserunjogi and Marvin Youngman compete for midfield positions.
For URA, Moses Waiswa will attract particular attention against his former employers.
The midfielder’s previous spells at Vipers provide an additional subplot to an encounter in which both teams desperately need points.
Historical form favours Vipers, who have won seven of their last ten meetings with URA, drawing twice and losing once.
They also recorded a 3-0 victory in the corresponding fixture last season.
Earlier on Saturday, Kitara FC return to domestic action against UPDF after their CAF Confederation Cup exit to Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
The Royals remain unbeaten in four league matches and have eight points, matching UPDF despite playing three fewer games.
Elsewhere, SC Villa visit Lugazi, leaders BUL host Entebbe UPPC, Blacks Power welcome NEC, while KCCA travel to face Mbarara City in Kamwenge.
