Amus College School etched their name into Ugandan schools football history after clinching both the boys’ and girls’ titles at the 2026 CAF Africa Schools Football Championship Uganda National Qualifiers.
The USSSA-organized qualifiers, staged during the National Ball Games II from July 8–16 at Sacred Heart Secondary School in Gulu, attracted a record 21 schools, eight girls’ and 13 boys’ teams marking the competition’s largest edition since its 2023 inception.
In the girls’ category, Amus College delivered a statement campaign.
They stunned defending champions Kawempe Muslim Secondary School 2-0 in the semifinals, with Irene Akurut netting a decisive brace.
In the other semifinal, St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana edged Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga 1-0 through.
The final proved cagey, but Amus held their nerve to secure a narrow 1-0 victory over St. Noa and lift the crown.
Ritah Namuganza netted the only goal of the game shortly after St. Noa had missed to take the lead via a penalty spot.
The boys’ competition mirrored the intensity.
St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende reached a third straight final after defeating Buddo SS 2-0, courtesy of Amos Molo and John Mary Kateregga.
Amus College, meanwhile, overcame Bukedea Comprehensive School 6-5 on penalties following a goalless draw.
In the final, Amus and Kitende settled for penalties after a stalemate in regulation time, Kitende having missed a first-half spot-kick.
Amus triumphed 5-4 to complete a historic double.
Individual accolades saw Namuganza Ritah (Amus) named Girls’ MVP, Iteriteka Mignone (St. Noa) best goalkeeper, and Akurut top scorer.
In the boys’ division, Kitende’s Joan Bosco Kirema earned MVP honours, while Amus’ Mukasa Stuart Junior claimed the Golden Glove.
Amus will represent Uganda at the CECAFA qualifiers in Rwanda.
