FIFA has stepped up its investment in women’s football in Uganda by funding an exclusive CAF C Coaching Course for 30 female coaches, in partnership with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).
The initiative, supported through FIFA’s Women’s Football Development Programme, is designed to expand access to formal coaching education and strengthen the pipeline of qualified women capable of taking up technical roles across the game.
The residential course commenced on August 17, 2026, at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, bringing together women coaches alongside former and current players seeking to transition into coaching.
Participants are undertaking both theoretical and practical sessions aimed at developing their technical knowledge, coaching competencies and understanding of modern football.
The CAF C qualification provides an important entry point into the coaching profession, equipping participants with skills applicable across grassroots football, schools, academies, youth teams and clubs.
The scholarships follow FIFA’s invitation to its Member Associations to apply for the Women’s Football Development Programme – Coach Education Scholarships. FUFA identified and submitted eligible candidates, with FIFA subsequently approving the applications.
The latest intake forms part of a broader investment that has seen 39 Ugandan women coaches enrolled at different CAF coaching levels through FUFA programmes with FIFA support.
While 30 coaches are currently pursuing the CAF C qualification, four Ugandan women are undertaking the CAF B Coaching Course: Nakiguba Cissy Gaudensia of the Women National Teams, Nabulobi Mercy of Sparta 09 Academy, Namugenyi Dorothy of URA FC Juniors and Birungi Sarah of Kikajjo Stars Sports Academy.
At CAF A level, five more women — Sharifah Nantumbwe, Jean Namayiga Sseninde, Sharon Kizza, Faridah Bulega and Oliver Mbekeka — are pursuing the highest CAF coaching qualification.
Together, the three levels create a progressive pathway for Ugandan women to advance from foundational coaching education to the highest levels of the CAF coaching structure.
The investment is expected to widen the pool of qualified female coaches and increase their representation in technical and leadership positions within women’s football, youth development, academies and national teams.
