Express FC and Maroons FC endured frustrating starts to the new Uganda Premier League campaign, with both sides suffering defeats on Sunday.
At the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, BUL FC edged Express 1-0, handing new Red Eagles head coach Morley Byekwaso a losing start to his reign.
Swabir Mpasa proved the difference, capitalising on a loose ball just inside the Express half before driving towards goal and firing past goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya from the edge of the box.
Express came close to restoring parity before the interval when Derrick Byabachwezi produced a crucial goal-line clearance from Aaron Mutebi’s corner.
The visitors continued to threaten after the restart, but BUL goalkeeper Kigonya was equal to the task, making two important one-on-one saves.
At the other end, Simon Achid spurned two opportunities as both teams struggled to find the finishing touch.
Express will now turn their attention to Thursday’s Kampala derby against KCCA FC at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, while BUL travel to face Kataka.
At Wankulukuku, URA FC completed a comeback victory over Maroons, winning 2-1 to give Jimmy Kintu Mwera a winning start.
Darius Ojok put the hosts ahead in the first half, but URA gradually wrestled control of the contest and levelled through Disan Galiwango.
The Tax Collectors then completed the turnaround in dramatic fashion, with Abraham Tusubira converting a late penalty to secure all three points.
URA will host SC Villa on Friday, while Maroons travel to Kamwokya to face Ntugasaze on Wednesday.
