Entebbe UPPC delivered the opening-day shock of the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season, stunning defending champions Vipers SC 1-0 at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, on Friday.
The Printers secured a famous away victory through a 32nd-minute own goal by Vipers’ Congolese defender Kevin Dayslva, who inadvertently turned Thomas Ochungu’s cross into his own net.
Vipers, who lifted the league title last season, struggled to impose themselves and were second best for large spells as UPPC displayed greater purpose and composure.
The visitors could have extended their advantage had former Vipers forward Ibrahim Orit converted either of two excellent opportunities—one in each half.
The defeat also ended Vipers’ long unbeaten run at Kitende. Their previous home loss came in 2024, when they were beaten 1-0 by KCCA under coach Abdallah Mubiru.
Vipers must now quickly regroup as they shift their attention to continental football, with Mauritania’s FC Nouadhibou awaiting them in the CAF Champions League on Saturday, September 5.
UPPC, meanwhile, will return to league action on Tuesday against UPDF at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
