All eyes now turn to Uganda’s most compelling boxing figure at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Aziz Abdul popularly known as Ringo whose highly anticipated super heavyweight quarterfinal bout against England’s Damar Thomas headlines tonight’s action in Glasgow.
The grandson of former Ugandan President Idi Amin Dada has drawn unprecedented public fascination, with anticipation stretching from Kampala to the wider Commonwealth.
His journey mirrors a storied lineage his grandfather, himself once a boxer, famously believed that only a knockout could erase doubt.
That ethos appears to have shaped Ringo’s own approach as he prepares for the biggest test of his campaign.
Meanwhile, it was the end of the road for Bombers captain Nuhu Batte, whose commendable run concluded with a points defeat to England’s Patris Mughalzai at the Scottish Events Centre.
Batte exits with distinction, having secured two victories, first dispatching Nigeria’s Abdulwahab Abdulramon in the Round of 32 before overcoming India’s Yadav Pratap in the Round of 16.
