Teso Ring Warriors Boxing Club emerged as the dominant force at the 2026 Eastern Region Novice Boxing Championship, sweeping the Elite and Overall trophies as the regional competition climaxed on Friday at Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe, Jinja.
The Soroti City-based club outclassed 17 other clubs to claim the championship’s top honours, underlining the growing strength of boxing in the Teso sub-region.

Teso Ring Warriors’ success capped a competitive championship organised by the Eastern Boxing Association in conjunction with the Uganda Boxing Federation, which attracted 139 male and female boxers across the Juniors, Youth and Elite categories.
Their head coach, Moses Nyayo, credited the triumph to sustained preparation and careful planning, saying the club had maintained an intensive training programme since its establishment.

“We have been training intensively ever since we started a boxing club in Teso. We haven’t relaxed from day one. We are ready to represent the region effectively.”
While Teso Ring Warriors dominated the senior ranks, Be-Yu Boxing Club of Iganga District topped the Juniors category, with Changes Boxing Club of Mbale City emerging as Youth champions.

The championship’s closing ceremony was attended by Owe’kitiibwa Edward Munaba, Minister for General Duties in Busoga Kingdom, who represented the Prime Minister and Katuukiro of Busoga, Dr Joseph Muvawala Nsekere.
Munaba opened the ceremony with a moment of silence in honour of the late King of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru, before congratulating the participants for their discipline and determination.

“Congratulations to the winners. To those who haven’t won, this is not the end. I want to thank all boxers for exhibiting high levels of discipline and determination. Your hard work is surely not in vain.”
The regional championship now provides the pathway to the national stage, with the best performers from each category set to represent Eastern Region at the National Novice Boxing Championship on 19 September at Lugogo Indoor Stadium in Kampala.
