The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) has officially released the list of candidates for its forthcoming national elections, setting the stage for a largely uncontested leadership transition, save for a competitive race for the third vice presidency.
The list was unveiled on Friday afternoon by the Chairman of the Independent Electoral Committee, Joseph Opio Ekodeu, at the USSSA National Headquarters located at GNS Plaza.
Incumbent president Justus Mugisha has been returned unopposed, securing a second term at the helm of the association.
Similarly, Margret Harriet Apolot, who served as the third Vice President in the outgoing executive, is unchallenged for the position of First Vice President.
Okot P. Bitek also faces no opposition in his bid for Second Vice President.
The only contest at the top executive level will be for the position of third Vice President, where three candidates, Twahil Kiteezaala, Richard Muhumuza, and Amanya Celia have been duly nominated, setting up a competitive ballot.
At the regional level, representation will follow the established structure, with each region electing three representatives to the executive committee, except Kampala Region, which will be represented by two members.
A total of 95 delegates are expected to convene for the elective assembly at Front Page Hotel in Namasuba on Saturday, 1st August.
The new executive committee will comprise 22 members, including elected officials, the President Emeritus (Patrick Okanya), a representative from the Association of Secondary School Headteachers of Uganda (ASSHU), and the USSSA Chief Executive Officer.
The incoming leadership will serve a four-year term, running through to 2030.
