Seven-time Uganda Premier League champions Express FC have appointed Becky Cynthia Nakimera as their new Chief Executive Officer, signaling a decisive shift toward institutional renewal and long-term stability.
Nakimera, a seasoned media personality, Bukedde TV presenter, and current vice president of the Uganda Sports Press Association, assumes office at a critical juncture for the Red Eagles.
She replaces Miiro Ashraf Mwanje, who was suspended and later handed a global ban by FIFA and FUFA over match-fixing allegations. Saif Wilfred had been serving in an acting capacity since Mwanje’s suspension.
Her appointment is widely regarded as a strategic move aimed at modernizing the club’s administrative structures, strengthening commercial partnerships, and restoring a competitive edge both on and off the pitch.
Express FC chairman Ssubi M. Kiwanuka described her arrival as “the beginning of a new era defined by unity, sustained success, and long-term growth.”
Founded in 1957, Express FC remains one of Uganda’s most storied football institutions.
However, the club has endured prolonged administrative instability over the past two decades, a factor that has significantly contributed to inconsistent performances and financial challenges.
Nakimera’s mandate is clear: rebuild operational efficiency, drive financial sustainability, and reconnect the club with its vast and passionate fan base.
Her leadership is also expected to prioritize youth development and fan engagement as central pillars of the club’s resurgence strategy.
The Red Eagles last tasted league glory in the 2011/12 season, and since then have struggled to mount a sustained title challenge amid increasing competition within the Uganda Premier League.
Her appointment represents more than a leadership change—it is a calculated reset as Express FC seeks to reclaim its historic stature in Ugandan football.
