Kyadondo Secondary School delivered a composed and clinical performance to defeat Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA) 2-0, securing their place in the knockout stage of the 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National Boys Football Championship in Lira.

In what had been billed as the standout fixture of matchday two, the contest at Dr. Obote College lived up to its high expectations, albeit tilting in favour of a more efficient Kyadondo side.

The result leaves JIPRA teetering on the brink of an early exit, with qualification hopes now hanging by a thread.

Kyadondo’s breakthrough arrived at a psychologically decisive moment.

With the first half edging towards its conclusion, Joseph Kakooza showed sharp attacking instinct, drilling a low effort beyond goalkeeper Rashid Wanjala to hand his side a 1-0 advantage just a minute before the halftime whistle.

The second half resumed with Kyadondo maintaining their attacking momentum, and within three minutes, they doubled their lead under dramatic circumstances.

Bashir Edema weaved past his marker, only to be brought down inside the area by Xavier Okiring, prompting the referee to point emphatically to the spot.

Edema dusted himself off and confidently converted the ensuing penalty, extending Kyadondo’s cushion to 2-0.

From that point onward, Kyadondo managed the game with maturity, restricting JIPRA’s attacking avenues and preserving their two-goal advantage until the final whistle.

The victory propels Kyadondo to the summit of Group E with a perfect tally of six points from two matches, underlining their credentials as serious contenders.

In contrast, JIPRA find themselves rooted at the bottom of the group, level on points with Kisozi Seed Secondary School, who also suffered defeat earlier in the day.

Elsewhere in the group, Kigumba Intensive Secondary School reignited their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Kisozi Seed, bouncing back strongly from their opening-day loss to Kyadondo.

JIPRA had earlier settled for a 1-1 draw against Kalisizo Seed in their tournament opener.

Attention now shifts to the decisive final round of Group E fixtures. JIPRA face Kigumba Intensive in a must-win encounter, while Kyadondo will lock horns with Kalisizo Seed in a high-stakes clash to determine the group’s top position.
