Bukedea Comprehensive School-South underlined their championship pedigree with a composed and clinical 2-0 victory over hosts Lira Town College, sealing qualification to the knockout stage of the 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Boys Football Championship.

In a mid-morning fixture played on Tuesday, 12th May at Lira Town College Playground, Bukedea delivered a performance marked by control, precision, and attacking intent.

Forward Simon Wanyama opened the scoring with a well-taken finish, before Godi Musa Akbar doubled the advantage to ensure a comfortable passage for the Eastern giants.

The result marks Bukedea’s second consecutive win in the competition, reinforcing their status as one of the tournament’s frontrunners.

They had earlier announced their arrival in emphatic fashion with a 4-1 demolition of PP Newton, a match in which Wanyama and Bob Atendele each netted a brace in a ruthless attacking display.

With six points from two outings, Bukedea Comprehensive School-South sit atop Group I, showcasing both defensive solidity and offensive efficiency.

Their progression to the knockout stage is now secured, with one group fixture still to play.

For hosts Lira Town College, however, the defeat confirms an early and disappointing exit from the tournament.

Despite having one game remaining, they are yet to register a point, having also fallen 3-1 to NUMASA in their opening encounter.

Attention in Group I now turns to the decisive clash between Bukedea Comprehensive and NUMASA, a contest that will determine the group leaders.

Meanwhile, PP Newton will face Lira Town College in the other fixture.

The ten-day championship continues to gather momentum, with the final slated for 19th May at Lira Town College Playground.

The stakes extend beyond national glory, as the tournament’s semi-finalists will earn the right to represent Uganda at the Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games set for August in Morogoro, Tanzania.
