Uganda Athletics (UA) has unveiled a formidable national contingent of 18 athletes and four officials set to represent the country at the 24th edition of the African Senior Athletics Championships.

The continental showpiece is scheduled to run from May 12–17, 2026 in Accra, Ghana, where Uganda will be seeking to assert its growing stature on Africa’s athletics stage.

The selected squad reflects a balanced blend of speed, endurance, and field event talent, with eight women and ten men named across a wide range of disciplines.

In the women’s team, Shida Leni and Banura Maureen will take charge of the 400m and mixed relay events, alongside the versatile Monica Akullu, who is entered for the 200m, 400m, and mixed relay.

Middle-distance duties will rest on Chebet Maureen (800m) and Knight Aciru (800m/1500m), while long-distance strength is anchored by Chemutai Martha (5,000m/10,000m) and Chelangat Rebecca (10,000m).

Nancy Chepkwirui completes the women’s roster in the 3000m steeplechase.
On the men’s side, Aboda Emmanuel leads the sprint charge in the 100m and 200m, supported in the 400m and mixed relay by Adoli Haron, Omuka Kenneth, and Chan Wengo Geofrey.

The middle-distance events will see Dradiga Tom compete in both the 800m and 1500m.
Uganda’s traditional dominance in long-distance running will be reinforced by Kibet Dan, Chelimo Dolphine, and Cherop Samuel Simba, all entered in the 5,000m and 10,000m races.

Leonard Chemutai will contest the 3000m steeplechase, while Otim David Beckham adds a field event dimension in the long jump.
Guiding the team is an experienced technical bench led by Head Coach Demayi Francis.

He will be assisted by coaches Sarah Nambawa and Pius Ocilaje, with Ssali Denis serving as the team physiotherapist.
