The Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) has convened its Annual General Assembly, approving a record budget of 22.2 billion Uganda Shillings (UGX 22,259,101,500) for the coming financial year.
The budget, aimed at facilitating boxers to feature in local and international championships, will be sourced from grants, sponsorships, affiliation fees, and participation fees.
With a focus on grassroots development, the budget allocates UGX 1,000,000,000 to competition equipment for schools and clubs, the largest share.
The Boxing Champions League, a flagship event, receives UGX 737,464,000, while preparation for the 2026 All Africa Games gets UGX 390,635,000.
“If we are to develop boxing, we need to get back to grassroots,” said UBF president Moses Muhangi.
“Schools are good breeding areas and they hold the future of all sports in Uganda. The Champions League has been a game-changer, and funding it will keep improving it.”
The Assembly also declared February 18, 2026, as the official election date, with Muhangi, who has served two terms, expected to seek a third term.
“Our official term will expire in February, and according to our constitution, we must organise elections,” Muhangi said.
“This coming election will help us align with the new sports act.”
Muhangi lamented the lack of government funding, citing a deficit in the concluded calendar year.
“We received only 260 million from National Council of Sports (NCS), which is pocket change compared to our administrative costs and activities.”
