Boxing: Batte Dominates Welterweight Bout
Welterweight boxer Nuhu Batte delivered a composed and tactically sharp performance to eliminate Nigeria’s Abdulwahab Abdulramon in the Round of 32.
The Ugandan secured a unanimous 5–0 decision after outworking his opponent across all three rounds.
Despite an early scare in the opening round, Batte adjusted swiftly—leveraging his superior reach and ring mobility to dictate tempo.
His aggressive yet controlled approach saw him edge ahead convincingly on the judges’ scorecards (29–26, 28–27, 29–26, 28–27, 29–26), sealing progression to the next stage while keeping Uganda’s boxing medal hopes firmly intact.
3×3 Basketball: Uganda Women Make Statement Start
Away from the ring, Uganda’s women’s 3×3 basketball team announced their arrival in emphatic fashion with a trio of dominant victories in the group stage.
The quartet of Melissa Akullo, Jane Asinde, Jamila Nansikombi and Perus Nyamwenge opened their campaign with a commanding 21–7 win over the Cayman Islands, before overcoming Jamaica.
They capped a flawless day with a resounding 21–5 triumph against Kenya, underlining their credentials as serious contenders.
