Netball Uganda president Joycline Ucanda expressed her enthusiasm and confidence in the sport’s resurgence, following a triumphant opening day of the National Rally Championship in Busia.

“I’m excited that the sport is finally back on the courts after a prolonged period of uncertainty.

It’s heartening to see our prominent clubs, schools, and institutions responding to the invitation and participating in this National Rally edition,” Ucanda stated.

President Ucanda also praised the exceptional quality and competitiveness of the participating teams.

It’s an extremely tight competition. All teams are showcasing a very high level of gameplay, and the competition is indeed fierce.”

Ucanda’s remarks came as she officiated the official opening match of the National Rally Championship, which featured hosts Busia Greater Lions Netball Club and UPDF. UPDF emerged victorious, winning 24-13.

The National Rally Championship has made a successful return to the netball scene after a two-year hiatus, with the previous edition held in 2023 at St. Lwanga – Kasasa in Masaka. This year’s championship boasts a diverse lineup, comprising five schools, seven clubs, three men’s teams, and three institutions. The two-day event will conclude tomorrow, Saturday, March 22nd.
