Hyundai’s Ott Tänak suffered a devastating setback, relinquishing his lead in the Safari Rally to historical victors Toyota Gazoo Racing WRC.
Tanak’s car began leaking gearbox oil, forcing him to concede the top spot.
As a result, Toyota has regained the lead, with Elfyn Evans and Kalle Rovanpera occupying the top two positions.
Tanak now finds himself in third place, facing an uphill battle to reclaim his lost advantage.
The rally at the time, cars were navigating the final stage of the day, the 15.10km Kedong stage, before heading into the final service.
Meanwhile, Ugandan crew Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba, who suffered a setback when they broke the front left arm on the 31.4km Camp Moran1 stage, are planning to rejoin the competition this morning under Super Rally regulations, determined to overcome their non-finish jinx at the WRC Safari Rally.
