In a thrilling finale, Buddo Secondary School emerged victorious in the 2025 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games II Netball tournament, winning their first-ever national netball trophy.

The team defeated reigning champions St. Mary’s Kitende 29-27 after extra time in a closely contested match at the Tororo Girls school main playground.

A Historic Moment

The victory marked a historic moment for Buddo Secondary School, with the team displaying exceptional skill, teamwork, and determination to win the epic final.

The crowd was electrified, cheering every move of the game, as the players gave their all to secure the win.

Buddo’s Historic Squad

The team that made history for Buddo Secondary School consisted of Sayda Shamim Shaban (GA) who Captained the rest, Agnes Nairuba (C), Cathy Naggayi (WD), Winnie Abbo (WA), Filly Amongin (GA), Anna Naigaga (WA), Stabua Sebbi (WD), Fortunate Kizito (GS), Faimah Namulinda (GK), Hassan Ponny Faridah (GS), Shakirah Nalumansi (WD), and Night Hudah (GD).

The team was led by head coach Jessy Assimwe, who attributed the victory to the team’s hard work, dedication, and perseverance.

A Triumphant Welcome Expected

The netball squad is expected to receive a triumphant welcome upon their return to Buddo, following in the footsteps of the boys’ football team that won the national championship in May 2025.

USSSA Ball Games II: A Celebration of Sports

The 2025 USSSA Ball Games II feature a diverse range of sports, including Volleyball, Handball, Rugby 7’s, Beach Volleyball, Beach Soccer, Football (U-15 and U-16), Basketball (3X3 and 5X5 for U-16’s), Ludo, Chess, Scrabble, Baseball & Softball, DanceSport, and Woodball. The games will officially climax on Friday, July 18th, 2025, at the King George stadium in Tororo with the official medal and trophies presentation.

Netball has attracted the most schools at this championship, showcasing the growing popularity of the sport in Uganda.
