UPDF FC have made a decisive move ahead of the new campaign, appointing seasoned tactician Hussein Mbalangu as their new head coach in a bid to stabilise and elevate the club’s fortunes.

The Army side confirmed Mbalangu’s arrival through their official social media channels, expressing confidence in his leadership as preparations intensify for the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season.

“We are thrilled to announce that Mbalangu Hussein has officially reported for duty as our new Head Coach.”

Mbalangu steps into the role at a critical juncture for UPDF, who narrowly escaped relegation last term after finishing just one point above the drop zone under Alex Gita.

The club’s recent Annual General Meeting underscored the urgency for improved performances, with technical restructuring highlighted as a top priority.

The experienced coach joins after parting ways with URA FC at the end of the 2025/26 season, and has recently been in charge at NEC FC.

Despite attracting interest from Kigezi HomeBoyz and Ntugasaze FC, negotiations failed to materialise, paving the way for UPDF to secure his signature.

In a strong show of trust, Mbalangu is expected to take full control of recruitment as the club reshapes its squad.

His immediate task will be to build a competitive side capable of avoiding another relegation battle and pushing toward mid-table security or better.

His appointment comes at a strategic moment, with the transfer window opening on July 1 and running through to September 19—offering a crucial period to reinforce the squad.

Attention will now shift to pre-season preparations, with the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season set to kick off on August 28.

Fixtures are expected to be released a month prior, giving Mbalangu a clear timeline to implement his philosophy and mould the team in his image.
