Uganda’s young breakers have been tasked with converting their international opportunity into tangible success as the national team heads to China for the WDSF World Breaking Championship in Chengdu from September 12–13, 2026.
The three-member squad of Ntulume George William, Muzaki Vanessa Aidah and Kawala Sophia, coached by Serwakulya Edrine, was flagged off on Thursday at the National Council of Sports (NCS) headquarters in Lugogo.
NCS Assistant General Secretary (Administration) Joseph Oluga challenged the athletes to approach the global championship with a winning mentality, rather than treating the trip as an opportunity merely to gain experience.
“I want to say categorically clear that one of the well organised sports in Uganda is DanceSport.
We’re undergoing reforms where we’re going through the process of licensing sports organisations, and I can confirm that Uganda DanceSport Federation sailed through in the first round without any issues and have a certificate from National Council,” Oluga stated.
He further reminded the delegation that their conduct would reflect on Uganda throughout their stay in China.
“DanceSport is for all, but I want to charge you people who are representing our country that the moment you step on the plane, know that you’re representing one country called Uganda. So be patriotic, exercise maximum discipline,” he said.
Oluga also issued a stern warning against abandoning the delegation while abroad, before setting a clear performance benchmark.
“Once I hear that any of you has disappeared from China, we shall look for you.
And lastly, you’re going to compete, not to participate. Government can’t invest money in you without the returns, so the least I expect from you is trophies,” Oluga added.
Captain Ntulume said the team’s preparations have strengthened their confidence ahead of the competition, with qualification for the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar remaining his principal objective.
“We have been training for the past five days.
I believe the training we have done will help us to qualify. My main target remains to qualify to the Youth Olympics in Dakar,” the team captain said.
The team departed through Entebbe International Airport, carrying Uganda’s hopes of a strong showing in Chengdu and a step closer to the Youth Olympic Games.
