Shafick Nasasira delivered a masterclass performance in the ring, claiming gold in the elite men’s 60-63.5kg Light Welterweight category at the ongoing 5th Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) Games.

In a thrilling final at Ras Hailu Gymnasium, Nasasira outpointed Ethiopia’s Beniyam Abebe with a 2-1 decision, showcasing his impressive skills and tactical discipline.

The tournament, hosted by Ethiopia, brings together top police teams from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and the host nation.

ACP Abu Kalule, head of the Uganda Police delegation, praised Nasasira’s gold-winning performance, saying, “We have trained hard and were looking forward to winning gold in this category. I am humbled that Shafick did not disappoint! He remained very focused throughout the preparations and today’s match.”

Kalule emphasized that Uganda Police’s focus on defending their trophy streak paid off, with the two participating boxers delivering the medals the Force aimed for.

“We are grateful to the Director of Welfare Production and Sports and the Inspector General of Uganda Police for facilitating this team to compete in these games,” he added.

Nasasira expressed his pride in winning gold for Uganda, saying, “Winning gold for Uganda is a great honor. It was a tough bout, but my preparation, discipline, and the support from my coaches and team helped me pull through.”

Moses Muhangi, President of the Uganda Boxing Federation, also celebrated Nasasira’s triumph, stating, “I’m extremely proud of Shafick. His victory is a clear sign that the Uganda Boxing Champions League is producing elite-level talent and his win shows that our grassroots programs are working.”

With this victory, Uganda Police cements its legacy as a boxing powerhouse in regional competitions, promising even more success stories ahead.
