Uganda remains on schedule to deliver the infrastructure required to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, following the conclusion of the second physical inspection of the country’s proposed competition and training facilities by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The inspection, according to FUFA Chairperson of the Communications and Promotions Subcommittee Dr. Denis Mugimba, covered all three designated match venues — Mandela National Stadium, Akii-Bua Olympic Stadium and Hoima City Stadium — alongside nine of Uganda’s 12 proposed training facilities.
The facilities assessed included the training grounds at Akii-Bua, Hoima City Stadium and Mandela National Stadium, as well as those at Makerere University, Kyambogo University, FUFA Kadiba, Hoima Booma Grounds, Pece Memorial Stadium and Gulu University.
Dr. Mugimba said the inspection has reinforced Uganda’s confidence that the country will meet the timelines set for the continental showpiece.
“Overall, as a country we are on course to have all the three stadia, i.e. Hoima City Stadium, Mandela National Stadium, Akii-Bua Olympic Stadium ready by end of December 2026 and ten out of the twelve Training Facilities.”
He added that the remaining two training facilities — FUFA Kadiba and Sir Tito Winyi Senior Secondary School — are expected to be completed by the end of January 2027, having been handed over to contractors later than the other sites.
The latest inspection represents another key milestone in Uganda’s preparations for the tournament, with CAF continuing to assess the country’s readiness ahead of the June–July 2027 finals.
Uganda will co-host the 2027 AFCON with Kenya and Tanzania under the Pamoja bid, marking the first time in the tournament’s history that the finals will be jointly staged across three countries.
