Ssingo Secondary School made an emphatic start to their 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Boys’ Football Championship campaign with a commanding 3-0 victory over Bishop Comboni College Kambuga in their Group G opener in Lira.

Representing Mityana District and the Greater Mpigi zone, Ssingo asserted early control and never looked back, delivering a composed and clinical performance against their Rukungiri-based opponents.

The breakthrough arrived in the 14th minute when Julius Ngobi confidently converted from the penalty spot to hand Ssingo the lead.

The play maker returned to the scoresheet shortly after the restart, doubling the advantage in the 50th minute with a well-taken effort that effectively put his side in firm command.

Bashir Nasur then sealed the dominant display in the 63rd minute, adding a third goal to cap off a convincing opening-day performance for the Mityana side.

Speaking after a positive start to their campaign, head coach Simon Ggita reflected on his team’s performance, ambitions, and the importance of building momentum as they navigate their debut appearance at the nationals:

“It’s our debut, and we’re grateful to start with a win. Our target is to progress from the group and reach the knockout stage.

This opening result gives us momentum, and our focus now shifts to tomorrow’s game. It’s a young squad experiencing the Nationals for the first time, and our priority is to prepare them to perform even better.” — Simon Ggita

This fixture marked the first outing for both teams in Group G, with Ssingo immediately signaling their intent to contend strongly in the tournament.

Attention now shifts to matchday two, where Ssingo will face Mengo at Lango College III grounds at 8:00 a.m., while Bishop Comboni College Kambuga will seek redemption against Ibanda College at the Lira UTC Grounds at the same time.

The championship, hosted in Lira City, will culminate on 19th May at Lira Town College.

The stakes remain high, with the tournament’s semi-finalists earning qualification to represent Uganda at the Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games scheduled for August in Morogoro, Tanzania.
