SC Villa maintained their strong start to the Uganda Premier League campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over Kigezi HomeBoyz at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, on Tuesday.
The Jogoo took control early and never relinquished their advantage, with a two-goal burst inside the opening 18 minutes putting them firmly in command.
Patrick Kakande broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 15th minute after Kigezi goalkeeper Norman Angufidru misjudged a challenge while attempting to claim the ball, colliding with Kakande and conceding a penalty.
Villa needed only three minutes to double their advantage. Kigezi’s defence failed to deal with the danger, allowing Aslam Semakula the space to unleash a superb finish beyond Angufidru.
The hosts could have gone into the interval with an even healthier advantage, but John Asiimwe squandered a golden opportunity in the 37th minute, sending his close-range attempt over the crossbar.
Kigezi emerged from the break with renewed purpose, pushing more players forward as they sought a way back into the contest.
Yet, their attacking pressure lacked the precision required to trouble Villa’s defence consistently.
SC Villa remained dangerous on the counter, with substitute Andrew Otim narrowly missing the target in the 67th minute after being played through by Kakande.
Asiimwe was also denied another opportunity eight minutes later as Villa continued to threaten a third.
The decisive blow eventually arrived in the 80th minute when Otim rose above a crowded penalty area to power Brian Mato’s accurately delivered corner beyond the goalkeeper and seal Villa’s victory.
The result takes SC Villa to third place with 10 points from four matches, level on points with second-placed NEC FC.
Kigezi HomeBoyz, meanwhile, remain 15th with just one point from three matches, although they have a game in hand.
