Amus College School has underlined its growing strength in schools football after producing a double podium finish at the CAF African Schools Football Championship – CECAFA Qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda.
The Ugandan representatives enjoyed a memorable campaign, with the boys’ side crowned regional champions and the girls securing bronze, while several players also collected individual accolades.
The boys sealed the biggest prize by edging hosts Rwanda 1-0 in the final to lift the CECAFA title and secure US$100,000 in prize money.
Their triumph was complemented by an impressive individual haul. Okwi Kennedy finished as the tournament’s top scorer, Mukasa Junior Stuart was named Best Goalkeeper, while Mawanda Vincent Kiza claimed the coveted Most Valuable Player award.
The girls also ensured Uganda left Kigali with a podium finish after overcoming Rwanda 2-0 in the third-place playoff.
Their performance earned them US$50,000 and the Fair Play Award for their discipline, sportsmanship and conduct throughout the competition.
The results gave Amus College a combined US$150,000 in prize money across the boys’ and girls’ categories.

Beyond the medals and financial rewards, Amus College’s showing in Kigali provides another strong indication of the depth of talent emerging from Uganda’s schools football system.
The campaign also offered the young players valuable exposure against some of the region’s best school-based talent, further strengthening Uganda’s prospects on the continental schools football stage.
