The Atlas Lions of Morocco have etched their name in the annals of African football history by winning a record third TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) title.

In a thrilling final, Morocco defeated first-time finalists Madagascar 3-2 at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, Nairobi.

Oussama Lamlaoui was the star of the show, scoring twice, including a breathtaking 40-yard effort that left fans and opponents in awe.

His performance earned him the top scorer award with six goals. Lamlaoui’s first goal came early in the match, courtesy of a precise through ball from Youssef Mehri, which split the Malagasy defense.

The final began at a frenetic pace, with Morocco seizing control early.

However, Madagascar showed resilience, equalizing midway through the first half through Toky Rakotondraibe.

Morocco regained the lead before halftime, with Sabir Bougrine drilling low past Michel Ramandimbisoa after Mehri’s precise pass.

Lamlaoui’s 40-yard strike in the second half effectively settled Moroccan nerves, but Madagascar refused to give up.

Lalaina Rafanomezantsoa pulled one back with a clever finish, setting up a tense finale.

Despite the loss, Madagascar’s historic run to the final has inspired a new generation of football fans.

Their counter attacking verve and mental strength won them admirers across the continent.

The silver medal and $1.2 million payout are a testament to their remarkable journey.

Morocco’s blend of resilience, organization, and Lamlaoui’s brilliance proved decisive.

The Atlas Lions held firm to claim their third CHAN crown in six years, taking home the gold medal and $3.5 million prize money.

The PAMOJA 2024 tournament has left a lasting legacy, with stadiums consistently full, atmospheres electric, and the football competitive until the last whistle.

As the fireworks lit up Nairobi, Morocco stood tallest once again, their victory a testament to their football prowess.
