The stage is now set for a gripping quarter-final round, with rivalries reignited and momentum building as the race for Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) national Girls football glory intensifies.

In dramatic fashion, Bukedea Comprehensive Secondary School staged a breathtaking late comeback to edge Standard High School-Zzana (STAHIZA) 4-3 in a penalty shootout, sealing their place in the quarter-finals after an enthralling Round of 16 clash at Nakisunga.

The contest, ultimately decided from the spot, had ended 1-1 in normal time. STAHIZA drew first blood as Lillian Asianzu struck as early as the 28th minute to hand her side a deserved lead.

However, Bukedea refused to yield. In a stunning twist, Mercy Nasiimbwa delivered a last-gasp equaliser with just 20 seconds left of the four added minutes, forcing the game into penalties.

Bukedea held their nerve in the shootout, prevailing 4-3 to complete a remarkable turnaround.

Attention now shifts to a tantalising quarter-final showdown, as Bukedea prepare to face Amus College School in a fierce Bukedea district and Teso zone derby.

The fixture rekindles an intense rivalry, with the two sides having already met twice this year.

Amus have had the upper hand in both encounters. They triumphed 5-4 on penalties following a goalless draw in Ngora during the Teso zone final, while Sylvia Achom’s decisive strike secured a 1-0 victory for Amus in the Bukedea district final.

To book their place in the quarter-finals, Amus delivered a commanding 5-0 victory over Sacred Heart in the Round of 16, underlining their title credentials.

Elsewhere, defending champions St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana delivered a ruthless performance, dismantling Moyo Star High School 6-0.

Grace Kawino and Marion Serenga each netted braces, while Faith Nalwadda added to the tally in a one-sided affair.

Wakiso zone champions Rines Secondary School also progressed with authority, defeating Nkoma SS 2-0 courtesy of goals from Patricia Nakato Nanyanzi and Trina Nakawuki.

Boni Concili edged past Jinja Comprehensive 1-0 in a tightly contested encounter, courtesy of a solitary strike, while Kawempe Muslim Secondary School powered to a convincing 4-1 victory over St. Charles Lwanga Kasasa.

Kevin Nanyunja starred with a brace, supported by goals from Shadia Nabirye and Belinda Hope Nabawanuka, as Happy Jackie Josephine netted a consolation for Kasasa.
