The curtain rose on a new chapter in school sport as Kho Kho made a thrilling debut at the 2025 USSSA Ball Games II Championship, instantly captivating spectators at Gulu High School.
Introduced for the first time into the USSSA programme, the fast-paced discipline drew curious athletes, coaches, and officials from other sports, many of whom lined the arena to grasp its rules and experience its tactical intensity firsthand.
By the close of play on Saturday, Kho Kho had already carved out a reputation for speed, coordination, and sharp strategic execution.
On the track, Kyambogo College School delivered the standout performance in the girls’ category, dismantling hosts Sacred Heart School Gulu 117–25 in a dominant Group A display.
Serere Township SS also signaled early intent with a commanding 70–17 victory over Soroti SS. In Group B, St Elizabeth SS opened strongly, beating Olio Seed SS 54–36, before Olio rebounded later in the day to edge YY Okot Memorial 45–33.
The boys’ competition mirrored the intensity. Labori High School posted the most emphatic result, overpowering Soroti SS 94–30, only for Atiira Seed SS to respond with authority, defeating Labori 86–59 in a high-scoring contest.
Meanwhile, Rubongi Army SS stamped their presence in Group B with a convincing 75–35 win against Serere Township SS.
With seven teams featuring in this historic maiden edition, the opening day provided both spectacle and substance, underlining the sport’s potential within the USSSA structure.
Attention now shifts to Sunday’s fixtures, where the group stage continues and teams push for qualification into the knockout rounds, with momentum and early statements already shaping the race.
