In a thrilling match at Makerere University Arena, Kenya’s Parliamentary volleyball team defeated Uganda 3-1, taking a significant step towards reclaiming the East African Parliamentary Games title.
The match, watched by a spirited crowd in Kampala, swung wildly between dominance, determination, and despair as both sides battled for supremacy.
Kenya took early control, edging the opening set 25-23, but Uganda roared back, sweeping the second set 25-12 behind the inspirational play of Mawokota North MP Hillary Kiyaga and Igara West MP Luis Gaffa Mbwatekamwa.

However, Uganda’s momentum was disrupted when Mbwatekamwa was forced off the court with a foot injury, allowing Kenya to seize the moment and overturn the deficit to clinch the third set 25-23.
Kenya’s Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama led the charge in the fourth set, powering his side to a commanding 25-11 finish and sealing the victory.

“I want to thank the professionalism of the referees. Despite being Ugandans, they officiated to the expectations of both teams,” Wanyama said.
Uganda’s Hilderman Kiyaga attributed their collapse to fatigue, saying, “I cannot blame the performance on anything else-fatigue affected the team. We travelled late and had little preparation due to our ongoing campaigns, but we shall be better next time.”
The 2025 East African Parliamentary Games continue across Kampala, with six nations participating, and will climax on December 17.
Kenya now stands as a strong favourite to reclaim the volleyball title after their gritty triumph over the hosts.
