Kawempe Muslim Secondary School once again underlined their dominance in school girls’ football, overcoming Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga 2-1 to retain the USSSA Kampala Regional Girls’ title at Hamz Stadium.
The victory was emblematic of Kawempe’s enduring pedigree—built on composure, resilience, and an unrelenting winning mentality—qualities that ultimately proved decisive in a closely contested final against a familiar foe.
After establishing control early on, Kawempe took a deserved lead through captain Agnes Nabukenya, whose powerful long-range strike set the tempo for the encounter and rewarded her side’s positive start.
Uganda Martyrs, however, responded with determination, growing into the game and applying sustained pressure in search of an equaliser. Their persistence paid off when they earned a penalty in a crucial phase of the match, calmly converting to restore parity and shift momentum.
Any hopes of a comeback were short-lived. Kawempe swiftly regained their footing, with Racheal Nanyonga producing a decisive finish to restore the lead and tilt the balance back in their favour.
From that point, Kawempe managed the contest with maturity, absorbing pressure and maintaining defensive discipline to see out the result and secure yet another regional crown.
Their superiority extended beyond the team accolade to individual honours. Nabukenya finished as the tournament’s top scorer with eight goals, having found the net in every match, while Vanessa Namazzi was named Most Valuable Player.
Esther Nantongo further capped Kawempe’s dominance by claiming the Best Goalkeeper award.
Despite falling short in the final, Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga secured qualification for the national championships. They will represent Kampala alongside Kawempe Muslim SS, Gadhafi Integrated Academy, and Highland SS.
Kawempe’s triumph reinforces their status as a powerhouse in girls’ football, a team defined not only by talent, but by consistency and an ingrained culture of winning.
