Lubiri Secondary School held their nerve to defeat Kibuli SS 5-3 in a penalty shootout and lift the 2026 Kampala Zone Boys’ Football title after a tense goalless draw in normal time at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo War Memorial Grounds on Tuesday.

The final was a test of discipline and resilience, particularly for Kibuli, who were reduced to ten men as early as the 20th minute following the dismissal of their captain.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Kibuli displayed remarkable organisation to frustrate Lubiri throughout regulation time.

Lubiri, however, remained patient and composed, eventually capitalising in the decisive shootout where they converted with precision to seal a 5-3 victory and the championship.

Head coach Dan Segawa praised the collective effort behind the triumph, crediting his players, technical staff, school management, and supporters for their role in the success.

The tournament’s climax was witnessed by Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) president Justus Mugisha, adding further prestige to the occasion.

Lubiri had signaled their intent earlier with a commanding 5-0 demolition of Kazo Hill College in the semi-finals, while Kibuli booked their place in the final with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Kawempe Muslim SS.

With the qualifiers concluded, Kampala will be represented by five schools at the upcoming USSSA National Boys’ Football Championship in Lira.

Lubiri SS lead the contingent as champions, joined by runners-up Kibuli SS, third-placed Kawempe Muslim SS, Kazo Hill College, and Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga, as they prepare to test themselves against the nation’s elite.
