Ssingo marked the start of a new chapter under head coach Allan Kabonge with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bugerere on Sunday at Ssaza Grounds in Mityana, as the Airtel Masaza Cup 2026 group stage first round concluded on Game Day 5.
In a tense and tightly contested encounter, the decisive moment arrived early in the second half when Kazibwe Victor rose highest to nod home from a well-delivered corner kick, sealing Ssingo’s first win under Kabonge in his debut match on the touchline.
Kabonge, recently appointed to replace the sacked Emmy Kisakye, wasted no time stamping his authority.
Kisakye had been dismissed alongside assistants Michael Bukenya, Godfrey Ssembatya and goalkeeping coach Joseph Ssempijja, ushering in a new technical direction for the Ssaza.
The victory lifts Ssingo to second place in the Muganzirwaza Group with eight points, three adrift of leaders Butambala, who sit on 11 points.

Bugerere, meanwhile, remain in fifth position with five points after another frustrating outing.
The matchday also officially brought the first round of the group stages to a close.
The tournament now enters a one-week break before resuming with Game Week 6 on the 1st and 2nd, where venues will reverse as teams that hosted this round travel away.
Elsewhere, Bulemeezi registered their first win of the campaign with a 1-0 away victory over Busiro, while Buluuli picked up their maiden point in a 1-1 draw against Buweekula.
