Defending champions Greenlight Islamic Secondary School-Nansana have set the tone for the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National boys football qualifiers for Nansana Zone, securing a perfect hat-trick of wins on day one.

Played at St. Augustine College, Greenlight Islamic’s campaign began with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Munyonyo High School, courtesy of goals from Thomas Calvin Kawooya and Shakur Ngoobi.

South Sudanese Both Bichar scored the consolation goal for Munyonyo High School.

Greenlight Islamic’s momentum continued unabated as they thrashed Makerere SS Gganda 4-0 in their second game, with Abud Razak Iradukunda, Simon Peter Okwi, Gregory Lule, and Marvin Musaazi all finding the back of the net.

The defending champions concluded their day with a resounding 3-0 win over St. Raphael.

In other matches, hosts St. Augustine College secured a 3-1 victory over St. Raphael in their opening game, followed by a nail-biting 2-1 win over Munyonyo High School.

Roy Businge and Raycard Kasirye scored for St. Augustine College, while Gadiet Bichar scored a consolation goal for Munyonyo High School.

Despite losing their opener 3-1 to St. Augustine, St. Raphael rallied to secure a 1-1 draw with Motherland.

Meanwhile, last year’s finalists London College began their campaign with a 1-1 draw before registering emphatic 5-0 and 4-0 victories over St. Francis and Nansana Progressive, respectively.

The competition will continue tomorrow at the group stage level, followed by the semi-finals on Thursday and the finals on Friday.
