Six athletes have been award for their August sports excellence at the Fortebet, Jude Colors Solutions sponsored awards.
The awarding Ceremony was held at Lazio Restaurant on Tuesday, 5th September 2023.
Victor Kiplangat beat, Joshua Cheptegei and Stephen Kissa to win the athletics accolade .
Kiplangat won Uganda’s second marathon gold medal at the World Athletics championship in Budapest, Hungary.
He replicated what Stephen Kiprotich did in Moscow, Russia in 2013 with a lung bursting run to the finishing line.
He beat a tight competition from Joshua Cheptegei who opened the doors of the three 10,000m great winners at the championship to become four with three titles in the row.
At the same event, Brian Balinnya was announced the best Ludo player of the month.
He won Muhammad Kayaaya and Rose Nsereko who were nominated in the same category.
Brian Baliinya, is the assistant captain Ntinda United Ludo Club. He was the first Super League Player since 2019 to win the Individual Ludo Championship.
In the finals he beat Kayaaya Muhammed from Impact Ludo Club.
Kayaaya needed a ONE to kill off the game while Balinnya needed a TWO to finish off the game, luckily enough a two appeared on the dice and Baliinya scored his last goal to beat Kayaaya who had started from round one on day one at Lugogo.
All the four semi finalists from this tournament , Brian Balinnya, Kayaaya Muhammed ,Rose Nsereko and Joan Nakibowa will be part of the 10 player team that will represent Uganda at the 2024 International Individual Ludo Championship
The other winner of the day was She Cranes player Shadia Nassanga. Nassanga competed team mates, Mary Nuba and Margret Baagala
Nassanga won three woman of the match awards against Jamaica, South Africa in group stage and Malawi in the semi final of the 5th position during the Vitality Netball World Cup Championship in Cape Town, South Africa.
Shadia Nassanga who trade her talent at KCCA left Cape Town with a total of 122 goals, she beats teammates Margret Baagala of NIC and Mary Nuba of Loughborough Lightening in England.
Uganda’s lightweight boxer Wasswa Ssali Amir alias Black skin clinched silver after defeat to South Africa’s Sogwayi Sanele in the final.
He rambled from the first round to the final with three bouts.
He beats teammates Erinah Namutebi and Ukasha Matovu to win August’s best boxer.
Light welterweight Namutebi clinched silver at the final after losing to Algeria’s Chahib Hichrak while Welterweight Ukasha settled for bronze.
In football, Yusuf Mukwana beat Crested Cranes Fazila Ikwaput and Shakib Mayanja.
Mukwana scored four goals in four games in the month. However, Kyaggwe failed to qualify for the Masaza Cup quarters after losing to Kyadondo 1-0.
Shakib Mayanja of Omutima Omusagi scored six goals in five games while Fazila Ikwaput scored 8 goals for Kampala Queens at the CECAFA CAF Champions League qualifier in Njeru.
Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba bounced back again to win the rally category after their Masaka rally triumph.
The duo beat Ponsiano Lwakataka and Paul Musaazi, and Jas Mangat and Joseph Kamya crews to the accolade.
The moil team won the SMC Masaka Rally to be crowned champions of the 2023 NRC with one round to spare.
In their Ford Fiesta R5, the duo did a time of 1 hour, 27 minutes and 02 seconds after a competitive distance of 134.53km.
Yasin and Katumba went to Burundi and finished second at Burundi International Rally in Bujumbura to set sight on the 2023 ARC.
