Uganda U17 Women’s National Team delivered a composed and tactically assured performance to defeat Zimbabwe U17 Women’s National Team 2-0 in the first leg of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers on Sunday at Ngoni Stadium.

The result places Uganda in firm control of the tie, with a decisive return leg scheduled for April 18th at FUFA Stadium.

Uganda’s authority in the contest was established early, as the Teen Cranes struck twice within a devastating four-minute spell in the opening half.

Immaculate Acen opened the scoring in the 11th minute, showcasing pace and composure as she surged past the Zimbabwean defence before finishing calmly beyond the goalkeeper.

Moments later, Lydia Namaseruka doubled the advantage with a stunning long-range effort, leaving the hosts stunned and firmly on the back foot.

With a two-goal cushion secured, Uganda shifted into a disciplined and structured approach, closing spaces effectively and denying Zimbabwe clear attacking opportunities.

Teen Cranes’ Starting XI against Zimbabwe

The hosts attempted to mount a response, particularly after the restart, but were repeatedly frustrated by Uganda’s compact defensive shape and game management.

Despite increased pressure from the home side in the second half, the Teen Cranes remained resolute, maintaining their organisation and composure to see out the match without conceding.

The 2-0 away victory provides Uganda with a significant edge ahead of the second leg on home soil.

The aggregate winner of this tie will progress to face either Namibia U17 Women’s National Team or Kenya U17 Women’s National Team in the next round of qualification.
