Uganda’s national boxing team, the Bombers, have received an equipment boost from Multi Sports Centre ahead of their trip to Kenya for the African Boxing Championships, scheduled to take place under the World Boxing banner.

The support adds to the government’s backing of the team as the Bombers intensify preparations for the continental competition, with the Ugandan contingent expected to depart on October 15 and return on October 28.
The 28-member delegation comprises 18 boxers, three coaches, two referees and five officials.
It will be led by Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) executive committee member and organising secretary Ibrahim Sekiziyivu.
The team has been training at Lugogo in preparation for the championships, which offer Uganda an opportunity to measure its strength against the continent’s best boxers.
The equipment donation follows a two-year partnership between the Uganda Boxing Federation and Multi Sports Centre, unveiled in Kampala, with the collaboration expected to extend beyond the African championships to the Boxing Champions League.

UBF president Moses Muhangi welcomed the partnership, describing it as an important step towards strengthening support for the national team and improving the sport’s public image.
“We have entered into a partnership with Multi Sports Centre.
The partnership comes with support for the national team heading to Kenya first and later to the Boxing Champions League,” Muhangi said.
He added that corporate involvement was essential to changing perceptions of boxing and building a more professional sporting environment.
“This sponsorship has reaffirmed that boxing is no longer a sport for thugs.
The commitment of corporate companies to the sport cements our direction towards making the image of boxing admired by everyone,” he added.
Muhangi represented the Uganda Boxing Federation at the partnership unveiling, while Multi Sports Centre managing director Ghulam Rabbani represented the company.
Rabbani said the partnership was driven by a desire to contribute to the growth of boxing in Uganda by equipping national team athletes with quality products to enhance their performance.
“Boxing is a growing sport, and we are glad to be part of it.
Our intention is to provide national team boxers with quality products that can enable them to perform effectively,” Rabbani said.
With the equipment boost secured, the Bombers will now turn their attention to the African championships, where they will seek to translate their preparations and institutional support into strong performances in the ring.
The partnership also signals a broader effort to attract corporate investment into Ugandan boxing, with the Boxing Champions League expected to be another beneficiary of the two-year agreement.
