After a two-year absence, Wilberforce Muzahura has officially returned to the touchline as head coach of Greenlight Islamic Secondary School–Nansana’s netball team, marking a significant moment for both the tactician and the rapidly rising side.
Muzahura was controversially banned in July 2024 during the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National Netball Championship in Soroti.
The sanction followed his protest against what he described as an irregular alteration of the competition’s flow chart, which had allegedly been switched from the original version released prior to the draws.
Now reinstated, the experienced coach has wasted no time in reaffirming his ambitions.
“I’m thankful to God I’m back to do what I do best. My absence was a setback to the team, and my return is to bring a lot of changes,” Muzahura stated.
“Tactically, we are prepared as a team and ready to rumble. Despite our setback, we have not faced a rough return, and we expect tougher competition from the quarterfinals onwards.
Our target is to reach the Wakiso semi-finals and secure qualification for the FEASSA Games after the national level.”
Greenlight’s intent was immediately evident on day one of the ongoing USSSA Wakiso District qualifiers, where the team registered three commanding victories.
They opened with a 27–05 win over Wampeewo Ntake, followed it with a 47–05 triumph against Hannah High School Gayaza, and capped the day with a 37–08 victory over Abu Aisha.
Central to Greenlight’s resurgence is a potent attacking unit featuring Christine Rebecca Apolot, popularly known as “Korea,” alongside Goal Attack Aleyo Vivian, Wing Attack Gift Zalifah, and Center Sylvia Musene.
This offensive quartet continues to make Greenlight one of the most difficult teams to contain.
Since joining the school in 2022, Muzahura has built a formidable reputation across Nansana, Wakiso District, and the wider secondary schools’ netball circuit. Renowned for his ability to transform raw talent into elite performers, he has inadvertently turned Greenlight into a recruitment hub for bigger institutions.
Buddo Secondary School, in particular, has heavily benefited from this pipeline, recruiting seven players over the past two years.
These include Felister Asale, Stabua Sebi, Winnie Abo, Zaituni Namusuubo, Betty Nassanga, and Kadija Sikola—who has since transitioned to pursue a nursing course at Mulago.
This influx of talent significantly contributed to Buddo’s dominance, as they clinched last year’s national championship in Tororo, dethroning St. Mary’s Kitende, and also secured the USSSA Elite title.
Greenlight has also lost key players to St. Mary’s Kitende, notably towering Goal Shooter Esther Kizadde and defender Erone Nakasooma.
Despite these setbacks, Muzahura’s tenure at Greenlight remains decorated.
He has guided the team to five Nansana Sporting District titles, one UMEA championship (2025) in Namagabi, Kayunga, and two Inter-Islamic Schools titles in 2023 and 2024.
His most notable finishes at both district and national levels stand at fifth place.
With Muzahura back in charge, Greenlight Islamic Secondary School will be aiming not only to reclaim lost ground but also to assert themselves as a dominant force once again in school netball.
