Current Autocross Championship Standings:

1. Ian Bachu 30 points

2. Edson Mungereza 25 points

3. Dennis Tibenda 24 points

4. Humphrey Kawuki 21 points

5. Moustapha Kanakulya 20 points

As we approach the thrilling third round of the 2025 FMU National Autocross and Enduro Championship, which is eagerly anticipated to take place this coming Saturday at the stunning Mwesigwa Rukari Resort in Mbarara, the current leader of the Autocross Championship, Ian Bachu, is poised with determination and skill to keep his closest rivals at arm’s length.

Bachu, considered a promising newcomer in the world of motorsport, competes in the cadet category, and he proudly leads the Championship standings with a strong tally of 30 points, a solid lead by five points over the seasoned rally trainer and driver, Edson Mungereza, who holds second place.

Dennis Tibenda follows in third place with a current score of 24 points.

At the official launch of the event, which was held amidst much fanfare at the host venue, Mwesigwa Resort, FMU’s deputy vice president responsible for rallying, Joshua Mayanja, enthusiastically highlighted that events of this caliber are crucial growth engines and nurturing grounds where fresh and aspiring talent in the sport is discovered and honed.

He extended a warm invitation to motorsport fans and enthusiasts, encouraging them to get involved by participating in such events as a vital means of furthering the sport’s development, fostering inclusivity, and ensuring its continued expansion.

Mayanja emphasized, “We no longer see veteran drivers taking part in autocross competitions; this opening provides new drivers with an even playing field to test their mettle before they progress to the Clubman Rally Championship category.”

This weekend’s event promises an electrifying atmosphere, with riders set to contest a timed Enduro race while drivers navigate through an intricately designed seven-kilometer stage, which will be driven twice, totaling a challenging distance of 14 kilometers.

Humphrey Kawuki, who is currently seated in fourth place in the championship rankings, achieved victory in the first round held at Muzuri, Mukono.

Meanwhile, Edson Mungereza clinched the win in the second round, held at Sisa in the Wakiso district.
