Uganda Cranes played for a goalless draw against neighbors Democratic Republic of Congo in the Africa Nations Championships group B opener.

The highly physical contest was played at Stade 19th May 1956 on Saturday evening.

There was hardly a side that found the back of the net as both side staged solid resilience.

Uganda’s best chance came through Ali Gift off a Geoffrey Wasswa free kick delivery in the second being denied by the woodwork.

However, both sides had numerous chances wasted as they settled for the spoils.

The draw reflects Uganda’s bad luck at the tournament which continues to bite to date

In the previous five successive appearances at the tournament, Uganda is yet to go past the group stages.

Uganda’s next opponent is group B leaders Senegal who they meet on Wednesday.

Senegal beat Ivory Coast 1-0 in their opener. Moussa Ndiaye scored the only important goal of the game to inspire Senegal to their group opener win.
