NIC delivered one of the standout performances of the Uganda Netball Super League weekend, defeating UCU Angels 44-33 as the title race gathered fresh momentum.
The victory was among several significant results recorded over the weekend, with Prisons Netball Club also maintaining their resurgence through a commanding 56-35 win over Posta, while defending champions KCCA registered two victories to remain firmly in contention.
NIC’s triumph over UCU was particularly consequential, halting the university side’s momentum and underlining the growing competitiveness among the league’s leading contenders.
NIC subsequently completed an impressive double by defeating Kajjansi 58-37, capping a productive weekend for the former champions.
Prisons, meanwhile, continued their recovery from a narrow 46-45 defeat to UCU Angels the previous two weekends.
They had responded to that setback by edging defending champions KCCA 55-54 in a dramatic encounter at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on October 24, handing KCCA their first defeat of the season.
Their latest 56-35 victory over Posta offered further evidence of their determination to remain in the championship conversation as the campaign progresses.
KCCA also demonstrated their resilience, bouncing back from the defeat to Prisons with a comprehensive 54-29 victory over Dynamite before overcoming Weyonje 56-46.
The defending champions’ double success keeps them among the teams to watch as the league approaches its decisive phase.
Canan also enjoyed a productive weekend, defeating UGX Luweero 51-42.
However, their second fixture against UPDF was abandoned in the second quarter after 12 minutes and 51 seconds, with Canan leading 19-17.
The match was halted following a heavy downpour that left the court wet.
The presence of the Uganda Premier League fixture between URA FC and Vipers SC at the same venue also formed part of the circumstances surrounding the disruption.
Police edged Kajjansi 46-44 in another closely contested encounter, while Busia Greater Lions’ earlier 43-38 victory over Dynamite remained one of the previous weekend’s surprise results.
The Division II competition also produced close contests, notably KBK’s narrow 33-32 victory over Dynamic, while Dynamic recovered to defeat Pride of Kawempe 42-34. Victoria University registered a 45-36 win over Alisha.
