SC Villa’s push for the Uganda Premier League summit suffered a setback on Wednesday as Kataka held the Jogoos to a 1-1 draw at Bukedea Comprehensive Complex.
The result leaves Villa second on 11 points, while Kataka remain 17th with two points.
Ali Sentamu gave the hosts the lead six minutes after the restart, rising above the defence to head Latif Ssenkubuge’s delivery into the net.
Villa, who needed victory to move top, responded with greater urgency and were rewarded when a Kataka defender handled the ball inside the penalty area.
Najib Yiga assumed responsibility from the spot and made no mistake, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to restore parity.
Neither side could produce the decisive moment in the closing stages, forcing Villa to settle for a point in a game in which Kataka demonstrated considerable resilience.
Villa coach Zeljko Kovacevic handed Hassan Matovu his debut in goal, while Gilbert Ogenrwot started at left-back.
The Jogoos had threatened early through a series of aerial deliveries, but Kataka’s goalkeeper remained composed.
Sentamu had earlier gone close for the hosts when he narrowly missed the target after connecting with Ssenkubuge’s cross.
The stalemate keeps Villa within touching distance of the summit but represents two points dropped in their pursuit of top spot.
