Record champions Gomba took a giant stride towards the Buganda Masaza Cup semi-finals after thrashing Buddu 3-0 in the first leg of their quarter-final tie on Sunday.
Gomba delivered a commanding performance at the Kabulasoke PTC grounds, putting themselves firmly in control ahead of next Sunday’s return leg.
Muhammed Kasule opened the scoring before Alfred Ssebunya and Hassan Waiswa added further goals to give Felix Kawooya Ssekabuuza’s side a sizeable advantage.
Buddu now face a daunting task when they host Gomba at the Kitovu Sports Arena in Masaka on September 20, needing a significant turnaround to keep their title hopes alive.
Elsewhere, Kyaggwe also secured an important advantage, defeating Mawogola 2-1 away in Ssembabule.
David Mugalu and Lauben Lubwama scored for Kyaggwe, while Asuman Ssenono’s effort gave Mawogola hope ahead of the second leg.
Kyaggwe will have home advantage in the return fixture at the Bishops SS playground in Mukono.
Busujju meanwhile edged Butambala 1-0 at Kakindu playground, with Michael Abura scoring the decisive goal.
The narrow margin leaves that tie finely poised, with Butambala set to host Busujju in Kibibi on September 20.
The only quarterfinal to produce no goals saw Bugerere and Kyaddondo play out a 0-0 draw at the Ntenjeru Ssaza grounds.
Kyaddondo will now have the advantage of home territory when the two sides meet again, with Bugerere travelling for the decisive return leg.
The four aggregate winners will advance to the semifinals, which will also be contested over two legs, before the competition culminates in the grand finale at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
