Uganda She Cranes goal shooter Mary Nuba Cholhok will continue her Australian netball journey with the NSW Swifts after securing a move to the Sydney-based club ahead of the 2027 Suncorp Super Netball season.

The 29-year-old has signed with the Swifts just days after confirming her departure from the Queensland Firebirds, bringing an end to her two-season stint with the Queensland outfit.

The Swifts officially confirmed Cholhok’s arrival on Monday, August 24, with the Ugandan international now set to relocate to Sydney and embark on a new chapter in one of Australia’s most storied netball environments.

For Cholhok, the move presents an opportunity to build on the experience accumulated during her two seasons in Australia while taking on a fresh challenge alongside a new group of teammates.

“I feel ready for this next chapter of my career, and I’m really looking forward to what lies ahead with the Swifts,” Cholhok said.

She also expressed excitement at joining a club renowned for its history and passionate following, while acknowledging the opportunity to continue developing at the elite level.

“Moving into a new environment will challenge me in different ways, and that is something I’m embracing.

I’m excited to continue growing as a player, push myself to new levels and contribute to the team’s ambitions.”

Cholhok’s signing comes as the Swifts seek to rebound from a disappointing 2026 campaign in which they finished fifth and missed the Finals Series.

It was only the seventh time in the club’s 30-year history that the Swifts failed to reach the finals, a significant departure from their 2025 campaign when they won 10 of 14 regular-season matches before their season ended in the Preliminary Final against the Melbourne Vixens.

The Ugandan shooter therefore arrives at a club determined to restore itself among the leading contenders in Australian netball.

Founded in 1997 as the Sydney Swifts, the club has established a formidable record, collecting seven national league premierships across the Commonwealth Bank Trophy, ANZ Championship and Suncorp Super Netball.

Those triumphs include Commonwealth Bank Trophy titles in 2001, 2004, 2006 and 2007, the 2008 ANZ Championship crown, and Suncorp Super Netball premierships in 2019 and 2021.

Cholhok will join an increasingly experienced Swifts squad that already features the likes of Paige Hadley, Helen Housby, Tayla Fraser, Grace Whyte, Sarah Klau, Rudi Ellis and Lucy Voyvodic.

With eight players already confirmed for the 10-member 2027 roster, Cholhok becomes part of a squad being assembled with the ambition of returning the Swifts to the Finals Series.
