The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) has intensified preparations for the 23rd Federation of East Africa School Sports Association (FEASSA) Games, convening its first preparatory meeting on July 22, 2026, at its headquarters in Old Kampala.

The high-level meeting brought together games teachers and representatives from qualifying schools, setting the tone for Uganda’s campaign ahead of the regional showpiece slated for August 12–23 in Morogoro, Tanzania.

It was chaired by USSSA President Justus Mugisha, with key guidance delivered by Rev. Dr. Canon Duncans Mugumya, Commissioner for Physical Education and Sports at the Ministry of Education and Sports.

Deliberations centered on logistics, compliance, and team coordination, with emphasis on national unity during international representation.

Mugumya underscored the importance of collective identity, stating: “When we go beyond the borders of our country, we do not participate as individual schools but as Team Uganda.”

He further clarified kit regulations, noting: “All teams will be given track suits and competition uniforms (home and away). Teams are required to dress in their official country colors throughout the championships.”

The championship programme confirms arrival on August 12, competition from August 13 to 22, and departure on August 23. Team Uganda will officially be flagged off on August 8 before embarking on a structured travel route through Mutukula, with a stopover in Kahama ahead of arrival in Morogoro.

A comprehensive roadmap was adopted, outlining key milestones including final clearances, submission of team lists, FEASSA draws, and distribution of apparel.

Schools were directed to strictly adhere to deadlines to avoid administrative setbacks.

The Games will feature a wide spectrum of disciplines, including football, athletics, swimming, rugby, basketball (3×3 and 5×5), netball, cricket, and emerging sports such as lacrosse and beach volleyball, reflecting the expanding competitive landscape of East African school sport.

Participation guidelines were also clarified, with Tanzania permitted up to four teams per event as hosts, while other nations will field two teams, except in select disciplines where three entries are allowed. Defending champions earn an additional slot in their respective events.

On travel and safety, Mugisha issued a firm directive, emphasizing operational compliance: “As an organization, we will always emphasize safety for all athletes and officials. If you are planning to use a full bus to Morogoro, Tanzania, it has to pass the inspection test.”

Strict requirements were outlined, including valid travel documents, medical clearance, vehicle compliance, and accreditation protocols.

Schools were further urged to uphold discipline, ensure eligibility of athletes, and maintain professionalism throughout the Games.
